Pat Canadians hand Mintos their third straight loss

The Saskatchewan Roughriders weren’t the only team to have a disappointing afternoon at Evraz Place Sunday.

While the Roughriders were doing battle with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL’s West Division final, the Prince Albert Mintos found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-1 contest with the Regina Pat Canadians at the Co-Operators Centre.

With the loss, which was the third in a row for the team, the Mintos fell to 11-6 on the season and are now in a three-way tie with the Pat Canadians and the Swift Current Legionnaires for fourth place in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League standings.

Dawson Springer had the lone goal for the visitors and Spencer Welke made 26 saves.

Cal Caragata, who leads the league in scoring with 35 points in 17 games, had a goal and two assists to pace the offence for the hosts.

The Pat Canadians, who improved to 10-5 with the victory, also got goals from Carson Whyte and Hunter Degelman to go along with a 14-save showing from Drayden Ramage.

Things won’t get any easier for the Mintos as they’ll return to the Art Hauser Centre Tuesday at 7 p.m. to face a Saskatoon Blazers side that leads the league with a 14-3 record.

The Mintos will then host the second place Saskatoon Contacts at 7 p.m. Thursday.
