The city’s planning director is resigning to take a job with the provincial government.
John Guenther confirmed that June 16 will be his last day at Prince Albert City Hall. He’ll be moving on to Saskatoon as the province’s director of community planning for the northern region.
He said that Prince Albert has been “a great city to work in,” and that he’s confident the department will carry on well in his absence.
“I think I’m leaving behind a department that’s in pretty good shape,” he said. “We’ve got some good people.”
Guenther said that planning manager Craig Guidinger is likely to take over as interim director, though that’s ultimately up to City Manager Jim Toye.
Guenther’s new position in Saskatoon could still see him weighing in on local development issues. His new office oversees amendments to official community plans for municipalities, and vets changes to zoning bylaws.
It also applies statements of provincial interest, including the contentious flood plan policy that’s made for spirited debate on City Council.
