The Nipawin Lions Club have concluded plans to host the the 2024 Spookarama on Oct. 31 at the Nipawin Legion Hall.

The event is a joint venture of a number of interested organizations, residents, and local businesses and spearheaded by the Nipawin Lions Club.

“The Spookarama is a halloween dance for children ages 12-18 grade 7-12. It comprises of dance and music of different kinds. It’s for the kids to come out and enjoy and its free of charge,” Kayla Barnesky, Chairperson Spookarama Committee, Nipawin Lions Club said. “It’s supported by different businesses and service groups in the community.”

There will be some games that the youth can play like popping some balloons with prizes on it. There will be a DJ who will play music for the youth to dance.

This event was started by the Lions Club in 1982.

“It was started because the adults had Halloween dances to go to and the younger kids had theirs, but there was nothing for the teenagers in between,” Barnesky said. “It was to keep the community safe and keep them off the street from vandalizing but giving them something to do. Its important for them to come and socialize and enjoy being kids , doing these activities, get off the phones and out of the house, do some social interacting that we have and get away from with all the technology and be of service to the community.”

The new games will be the attraction for this year’s event aside from the dancing. There will be a survey done with the kids to help them express what they will like to see in the next Spookarama.

“Come out, join and enjoy, if you are within the age bracket. Others who will want to donate, support or volunteer their time is welcome. They can contact me,” Barnesky said.
