Prince Albert Outlaws make their senior lacrosse debut on Friday night
Prince Albert has a new senior men’s lacrosse team.
The Prince Albert Outlaws begin their inaugural season at home on Friday and they’re facing the best Senior ‘B’ team in the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League (PGLL): the Saskatoon Brewers. The Brewers are the reigning league champions and have won four titles in the last six years.
Outlaws players-coach Lawrence Holizki said he’s viewing the home opener as a measuring stick with which to chart his team’s progress.
“They’ve played together for quite a long time and us being of course first-year we want to just go into this first game, hopefully get rid of the rust, play as hard as we can and kind of use it as a marker,” he said.
“Show us what we need to improve on against the top teams and then towards the end of the season, when we play them again, we should be a little more prepared.”
Holizki said the Outlaws put a team together last year but were too late to join the PGLL. This year Holizki said, “We made sure we went to the meetings. All the good boring stuff.” Also joining the now seven-team league are the Saskatoon S.W.A.T. and Steelers.
