There’s a new doctor in town.

Thanks to a made-in-Saskatchewan program, Dr. Tamer Banoub, originally of Egypt, has begun to practise here in Prince Albert.

Banoub was hired through the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment (SIPPA) program.

SIPPA is a unique program that assesses international medical graduates on their education and clinical ability before allowing them to practise medicine in the province.

Since 2011, 210 new family doctors have completed the assessment and are currently practising in the province.

Dr. Banoub is one of 14 new international medical graduates who completed the most recent assessment and are now working in communities across the province. An additional 14 doctors are currently doing their field assessments. If successful, they will begin practising in the fall.

The Daily Herald reached out to Dr. Banoub through Saskdocs, the province’s doctor recruitment agency. While he was not available for comment, according to the Prince Albert SuperMed Walk-In Clinic, located inside Superstore, Dr. Banoub is set to open his practice there.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Dr. Banoub to the SuperMed Family Medicine and Walk in Clinic in mid-June,” the clinic wrote on its website.”

Banoub will also see walk in patients and do home visits for seniors who find it difficult to get to the clinic.

According to his biography on the website, Dr. Banoub was born and raised in Egypt, graduating from Ain Shams University in Cairo in 2004. He practised in hospitals and as a family doctor for about 10 years before relocating to Calgary.
