Prince Albert’s Alex Moar will now be playing closer to home in the Western Hockey League.
The 17-year-old blueliner was traded by the Everett Silvertips to the Swift Current Broncos Wednesday afternoon in exchange for 20-year-old import defenceman Artyom Minulin and an eighth round pick in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft.
Moar, who had spent the last two seasons with the Prince Albert Mintos, had suited up in four games for the Silvertips during his rookie campaign.
Minulin has yet to play this year as he recovered from off-season shoulder surgery.
The Russian blueliner had 126 points in 206 regular season games for the Broncos over the last three seasons.
Moar will be back at the Art Hauser Centre next Friday night when Swift Current takes on the Prince Albert Raiders for the first time this season.
Raiders Honoured
As the team continues to be ranked in first in all of the Canadian Hockey League, two members of the Prince Albert Raiders have received accolades from the WHL.
On Wednesday, forward Brett Leason was named the league’s player of the month for September and October, while Ian Scott was named goaltender of the month.
Leason has recorded a point in all 16 games the Raiders have played in and currently has 15 goals, 20 assists and 35 points.
He leads the WHL in goals and points as of Wednesday and is one assist back of Edmonton’s Trey Fix-Wolansky for the league lead.
Scott has put together a 13-1 record and two shutouts so far this season.
The Toronto Maple Leafs prospect currently has a 1.57 goals against average and a .943 save percentage.
He leads the league in wins and shutouts heading into a home game Friday against the Kootenay Ice and sits second to Vancouver’s Trent Miner in goals against average and save percentage.
Leason and Scott will be joining teammate Parker Kelly on Team WHL’s roster next week for the Canada Russia Series, which will take place Monday and Tuesday in Kamloops and Vancouver.
Jake Neighbours of the Edmonton Oil Kings was named as WHL the rookie of the month Wednesday.

Red Deer Rebels forward Brandon Hagel, who was not signed by the Buffalo Sabres this past spring after being selected by them in the sixth round of the 2016 NHL Draft, has signed an entry level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The 20-year-old forward is off to an impressive start in his fourth campaign with the Rebels, as he has 12 goals and 16 assists in 15 games.
After requesting a trade earlier this month, forward Tristen Nielsen was dealt by the Calgary Hitmen to the Vancouver Giants Wednesday in exchange for forward James Malm and a conditional draft pick in 2020.
Nielsen, 18, had suited up in five games for the Hitmen this season and had 43 points in 106 games for them after being selected 20th overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.
Malm, 19, was the leader in scoring for the Giants with 15 points in 13 games at the time of the trade and has recorded 134 points in 179 games.
