The Prince Albert Mintos’ special teams played a big role in keeping their perfect record intact Thursday night.
A pair of a power play goals, a shorthanded marker and a penalty kill that prevented the Saskatoon Contacts from scoring on eight opportunities allowed the Mintos to improve to 5-0 in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League play as they picked up a 3-1 triumph at Merlis Belsher Place.
Gabe Klassen led the way with a goal and two assists as the Portland Winterhawks prospect has put up seven points in three games since coming back from the Western Hockey League.
Turner McMillen and Chase Freidt-Mohr also scored for the visitors, who received a 40-save showing from Spencer Welke.
Walker Jerome had the lone goal for the 3-1 Contacts, while Ethan Chadwick stopped 19 shots.
The Mintos will return to action next Wednesday night for a 7:45 p.m. tilt with the Saskatoon Blazers at the Rod Hamm Memorial Arena.
They’ll return to the Art Hauser Centre at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 for a date with the Regina Pat Canadians.
