Mintos split weekend road trip

The Prince Albert Mintos experienced both sides of a shutout during a pair of road games in southern Saskatchewan this weekend.

After a 5-0 triumph over the Notre Dame Argos in Wilcox Saturday, the Mintos saw a three-game win streak come to an end the following afternoon as they dropped a 6-0 decision to the Moose Jaw Warriors.

It was a tough day for the 11-4 Mintos at Mosaic Place, as they were outshot by a 46-20 margin.

Wyatt Wilson had a goal and two assists to lead the way for the 10-4-1 Warriors, while Atley Calvert lit the lamp twice.

Davis Fry, Kyle Forester and Max Wanner also scored for the hosts, who received a 20-save showing from Dylan Ernst.

Spencer Welke turned aside 40 shots in a losing effort.

Saturday’s contest saw Joel Favreau make 11 saves for his second shutout of the campaign, which put him in a tie with Moose Jaw’s Chase Coward and Drayden Ramage of the Regina Pat Canadians for the most clean sheets in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League this year.

Gabe Klassen, who made his Western Hockey League debut with the Portland Winterhawks last weekend, had a pair of goals for the visitors.

Dawson Brace, Josh Peppler and Chase Pauls also scored for the Mintos, while Kayden Skulmoski dished out two assists.

Nikita Evstratov stopped 43 shots for the 1-16 Argos.

Next up for the Mintos, who are currently third in the league standings, is a meeting at the Art Hauser Centre with the Beardy’s Blackhawks at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The team will then head back out on the road Sunday to face the Regina Pat Canadians at 3 p.m.
