Local artist, Destiny Schafer, had the idea; Morgan Bell carried it out – the first poetry night held at Marker 47 Café on Tuesday, Dec. 19 was a success.

It was standing room only for the event, with a diverse group of people sharing their poetry throughout the evening.

“I thought it was a good opportunity to put on a fun, sober event, where you could come out to share your art,” Bell said.

Close to a dozen people shared poetry they had either written or something that they appreciated from another author.

It was a move for Marker 47 into another area of art. They have developed a gallery wall, where there are monthly art exhibits by local artists.

Destiny Schafer is a local artist, who suggested the event.

Bell, who recently moved to Buffalo Narrows from La Ronge is a Health and Wellness student, doing a practicum in La Ronge, organized and was MC for the evening.

Plans are underway for more similar events in the near future, particularly when the first one was so successful, Bell said.
