Marauders shutout by Stars

It wasn’t the return to form that the St. Mary Marauders were hoping for last weekend.

After dropping a 26-14 affair to the Carlton Crusaders at Max Clunie Field on Oct. 4, the Marauders suffered their second straight loss in the Saskatoon Secondary Schools Athletic Directorate Friday, as they were shutout in 31-0 affair against the Bethlehem Stars at the Saskatoon Minor Football Field.

Stars running back Ethan Sommerfeldt turned in a dominating performance as he rushed for 272 yards on 26 carriers and scampered into the end zone on four occasions.

Kyle Witkowski completed 12 of 27 pass attempts for 97 yards to lead the Marauders on offence.

Matthew Wist had eight tackles in the loss, while Nicholas Erickson came up with an interception.

The Marauders have a 3-3 record and sit in a tie for fifth place with the Stars in the 4A standings ahead of their regular season finale Thursday at 6:30 p.m., when they’ll welcome the 1-5 Tommy Douglas Tigers to Max Clunie Field.

Meanwhile, the 4-2 Carlton Crusaders will wrap up their campaign at Max Clunie Field Friday at 6:30 p.m. against the 0-6 ED Feehan Trojans.

Playoff games in the 4A loop are slated to begin on Thursday, Oct. 25.
