Marauders girls’ soccer team advance to 5A consolation final

The St. Mary Marauders girls’ soccer team will have a chance to end their season on winning note Saturday as they’ll play the Weyburn Eagles in the consolation final at the SHSAA 5A provincial tournament in Saskatoon at 10 a.m.

Following a 2-1 loss to the Holy Cross Crusaders of Saskatoon in a quarter-final game Friday morning, the Marauders bounced back with a 3-2 victory over the Campbell Tartans of Regina later in the day.

Anna Puentespun had the lone goal for the Marauders in their game against the Crusaders, while scoring details from the contest against the Tartans were not available.

Meanwhile. the Marauders’ boys squad saw their season come to an end Friday with a pair of losses at the SHSAA 5A boys’ championship in Swift Current.

After dropping a 4-0 affair to the St. Joseph Guardians of Saskatoon in the quarter-final round, St. Mary came out on the wrong end of a 2-0 contest with the Miller Marauders of Regina in a consolation semifinal contest.

It will be an all-Saskatoon final at both tournaments, which will wrap up Saturday.

Holy Cross will face St. Joseph in the girls’ gold medal game and the Centennial Chargers will square off with St. Joseph in the boys’ title contest.
