PACI art students add their contributions to Prince Albert’s Canada 150 Mosaic Mural

When Robert Popescul heard that the City of Prince Albert was looking for community groups to participate in the upcoming Canada 150 Mosaic Mural project, the Prince Albert Collegiate Institute (PACI) art teacher knew that he wanted to get his students involved.

The Canada 150 Mosaic Mural art project is a national endeavour involving approximately 150 communities from across the country. P.A.’s mosaic will be made up of 450 tiles uniquely painted by members of the community. Together, when viewed from afar, the 450 four-by-four inch paintings will appear as large image of the P.A. on the bank of the North Saskatchewan River.

“It’s important, I think, to be a part of the community and do things that are community-related and I want the students’ work to get out there and I want them to feel proud of their work and it be displayed in public areas,” Popescul said.

“I hope they can become proud that they were a part of something larger than even just the school and I hope that they are able to realize that they can be a small part of something large.”
