After two years of development and construction, the new Lake Country Co-Op food store in Prince Albert cut the ribbon for its grand re-opening Thursday.
The newly-refurbished store has a popcorn kitchen with dozens of interesting popcorn flavours, a noodle bar, homestyle fried chicken program, expanded full-service meat case with custom cuts and value-added products available, and a bigger, more accessible pharmacy.
“This was two years in the works and to finally see it come to completion, I’m extremely happy with how it turned out,” said Lake Country Co-Op CEO Dean McKim.
“I couldn’t be prouder of our team for keeping the doors open for our members through the renovation. It’s been challenging, but definitely rewarding. It’s an exciting finish to the renovations.”
McKim highlighted the smell of the new popcorn kitchen, the custom-cut meat and the easier access to the store’s pharmacists to improve counselling about prescriptions and education as some of the renovation highlights.
He said it was time to give the store an update.
“The store is getting close to being eight, nine years old, and in the food industry, or in any industry, you have to stay up with current décor packages,” he said.
“There were some offerings we didn’t have that we wanted to incorporate and our commitment to being a strong leader in the food industry in Prince Albert and area.”
For store manager Dave Pisio, the homestyle fried chicken program is one of the highlights. He said customers have appreciated the changes.
“It’s been exciting,” he said.
“We’ve had lots of really good feedback from our customers and members about the new things we’ve done in the store. It’s been really good.”
