Prince Albert RCMP are investigating a call for a break and enter and theft that occurred outside of the city on Sunday morning.

At about 7 a.m., officers were called to the scene. Upon arrival, they located and placed a woman in custody. A man fled the area prior to their arrival and was believed to be carrying a long barrelled gun.

The Protection Response Team (PRT), SERM Police Dog Services and conservation officers came to assist.

SERM Police Dog Services and two RCMP officers tracked the suspect for five kilometres to a vacant rural property about 10 kilometres north of the Prince Albert detachment.

Officers then made verbal attempts to get the man to vacate the property, but did not get a response. The Emergency Response Team attended.

A containment was set up around the property with the assistance of the PRT and officers from Waskesiu and Smeaton.

Police were able to get a response from the suspect and, after negotiations with the Emergency Response Team, he surrendered without incident.
