If you like truck and tractor pulls, you’re in luck—the Rose Garden Hospice is hoping to make this weekend’s Thunder in the Pines event an annual one.

The inaugural Thunder in the Pines Truck and Tractor Pulls takes place at the exhibition grandstand on Friday and Saturday.

All proceeds go to the hospice, and it’s in partnership with Canadian Tire and the Prince Albert Exhibition Association.

Rose Garden Hospice Chair Marina Mitchell says it’s generated a lot of interest.

“I’m hoping each night—I think we can hold 2,000 people or just over 2,000—so we’re hoping to sell out.”

The gates open at 3 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to the truck and tractor pulls, there will be monster truck rides, food, beer gardens and an information table to learn more about the hospice.

The Prairie Pulling League is busy prepping their trucks and tractors for the track. Mitchell said they’ve never come to Prince Albert before.

“It’s just something different,” she said. “Prince Albert is kind of a farming community and so we thought it was a great event for families to come and spend the night and watch some cool tractors.”

Mitchell said like all their fundraisers, it’s a chance to spread awareness and let the public know about the need for a hospice in the city. It will provide care for people with terminal illnesses in a home-like setting.

“We just wanted to kind of once again get our name out there more, give people a chance to be able to get some more information on us,” she said.

Advance tickets are available at Canadian Tire, the Raiders box office or online at www.raiderhockey.com. Advance adult tickets cost $30 for both days or $20 for one day, and youth tickets (age 6-17) cost $25 for both days or $15 for one.
