Hobson and Huskies advance to Frozen Four semis

The Northeastern Huskies’ women’s hockey program has reached the semifinal round of the Frozen Four for the first time in their history.

The team, which is captained by senior blueliner Brooke Hobson of Prince Albert, lived up to their number-one overall ranking Monday with a convincing 5-1 victory over the eighth-seeded Robert Morris Colonials in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Hobson’s defensive partner Skylar Fontaine had two goals and an assist to lead the way for the Huskies, who have won 17 games in a row.

Their opponent in Thursday’s semifinal is the fifth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, who picked up a 1-0 overtime triumph over the Colgate Raiders Monday night.

The winner of that contest will face either the Wisconsin Badgers, Providence Friars, Ohio State Buckeyes or the Boston College Eagles in Saturday’s final.
