Joe Hargrave has come one step closer to being re-elected to the Saskatchewan legislature.
Hargrave was acclaimed as the Saskatchewan Party Candidate for the constituency of Price Albert Carlton at a nomination meeting held on Monday. Hargrave, who is the Minister Responsible for SGI and Minister of Crown Investments Corporation., was first elected in the 2016 provincial election.
He has also served as Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy, SaskTel and STC during his tenure. He was recently awarded the MADD Canada Citizen of Distinction Award for leadership for his role in reducing impaired driving in Saskatchewan.
Prior to getting into politics, Hargrave was the owner and operator of Riverside Auto Group and has been involved with the local Rotary Club, the board of police commissioners and Community Futures. He lives in Prince Albert with his wife Fran. He has four children and six grandchildren.
Hargrave was the tenth candidate nominated for the Sask. Party ahead of the October 2020 provincial election.
“It’s great to get that out of the way. I’m really happy I’m going to be able to run again next term,” he said.
“I’m very pleased with how things have gone so far. I think our government has done really well, I think I represent Prince Albert very well and the people of Prince Albert Carlton and I’m really excited for another term.”
Hargrave agreed that it was a big vote of confidence to be acclaimed as the 2020 candidate.
“it was pretty humbling that they had that confidence in me and that they’re pleased with the work I’ve done.”
When election time comes along, Hargrave said he will look forward to helping candidates in neighbouring ridings, such as Batoche, Prince Albert Northcote and Saskatchewan Rivers.
“I’ll be looking forward to possibly attending their nomination and supporting them as colleagues,” he said.
Until then, with the election still two years away, Hargrave is now focused on his work at the legislature. According to media reports, ride sharing legislation, part of Hargrave’s portfolio as Minister Responsible for SGI, will be coming out in the next few weeks.
With NDP MLA using her Daily Herald column to announce her intention to run again, it appears as if both of Prince Albert’s incumbents will be up for re-election when the polls open on Oct. 26, 2020. So far, no one has been nominated to run for the Sask. Party in the Prince Albert Northcote riding to face off with Rancourt, and there hasn’t been an NDP nomination yet for the Prince Albert Carlton riding to go against Hargrave.
