Charity tournament raises $12,000 for MADD P.A.

Trina Cockle spent her Saturday afternoon seated by Hole 7 at Kachur’s Golf Course, under “about 17 layers” of mosquito spray, keeping an eye out for holes-in-one.

“That particular hole is a hard one, apparently,” Cockle said.

“I think out of all the golfers we had here today four got on the green.”

Cockle, president of the Prince Albert chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), was on hand to witness hole-in-one shots for the inaugural Knights of Columbus/MADD Golf Classic, which was held at Kachur’s on July 22. Nineteen four-person teams signed up for the charity tournament, which ended up raising $12,000 for MADD P.A. Cockle said the money raised at the event will stay in the community and go towards victim support, education and awareness.

“Everyone that we asked, everyone that we approached or talked to about donations or golf teams, they all said yes. Some gave a little, some gave a lot, some just made up a team and came in,” Cockle said.

“I’m just in awe of how much our community supports what we do because without the community support we have no money, we can’t do the things that we do. We need that, so it’s been amazing.”
