P.A. peewee Royals get a taste of provincial competition
The Prince Albert peewee ‘AA’ Tier 4 Royals wrapped up their season with a trip to the Baseball Saskatchewan Peewee Provincial Championships in Moosomin over the weekend.
The Royals lost their four round-robin matches and did not advance to the playoff round, but coach Dillon Zuck said the competition capped off a season of progress.
“We didn’t win any games, but I don’t think that reflects how good the kids did that weekend,” he said.
“We started out with a small group and went to provincials and from what we started with to (where) we ended up, the skill level at provincials was amazing. All those kids got so much better an really improved during the year.”
The Royals were in a tough pool and faced teams they had never met before, but nearly came away with a couple wins. They went to extra innings against Southey and lost in the final inning to Martensville. They also faced the home team and Rosetown, the tournament runner-up. Kindersley defeated Rosetown for the title.
