Ten Saskatchewan projects are among the 84 receiving grants from Farm Credit Canada (FCC) to support rural capital projects.
FCC, a self-sustaining crown corporation that lends money to agricultural producers and value-added corporations, announced Monday it would be giving $1.5 million through its FCC AgriSpirit Fund to the 84 groups nationwide.
This year, the fund awarded between $5,000 and $25,000 for community involvement projects that either enhance the lives of residents or contribute to sustainability in communities. That includes the purchase and installation of equipment, energy-efficient building improvements and the purchase or repair of fire and rescue equipment. “The FCC AgriSpirit Fund is about helping community-minded individuals and groups undertake projects that enhance the quality of life in rural Canada,” said Sophie Perreault, FCC executive vice-president and chief operating officer in a press release.
“Our employees care about the communities where they live and work, and we share in their pride and sense of accomplishment by lending a helping hand.”
The next application period for funding opens in spring 2019. Registered charities, municipalities and non-profit organizations can visit fccspiritfund.ca for more information, to apply or view past projects.
Over the last 15 years, the fund has dedicated supported 1,170 projects for a total of more than $13.5 million.
2018 Saskatchewan recipients:
Focus Forward for Indigenous Youth: the purchase and installation of solar panels and an irrigation system for a community greenhouse on Montreal Lake Cree nation — $25,000
McLean Fire Department: Adapt a truck to a first responder unit and renovate a building for the new fire hall — $25,000
Town of Canora: Retrofit metal halide ice lights to energy efficient LED lights — $20,000
Village of Mistatim: Replace the heating system and make upgrades to the rink arena and upstairs hall — $20,000
Village of Archerwill: Upgrade the water treatment plant, including the purchase of a new water well and new storage reservoir tanks — $20,000
Eastend Rink Complex: Purchase new rink boards and renovate the dressing rooms — $15,000
Spiritwood Civic Centre Repair & Revitalization: Repair and revitalize the community hall — $15,000
Watrous Manitoba Beach Heritage Centre: Purchase and install energy efficient windows for the newly renovated Heritage Centre — $15,000
Tourism Radville Inc.: Restore windows and insulate the building with a spray coat — $12,000
Imperial and district ambulance: Purchase a new AED machine and automatic stretcher — $3,000.
