The campaign to build a freestanding hospice in Prince Albert is $25,000 closer to its goal.
Dr. Jerry and Carol Janzen presented a $25,000 donation to hospice board chair Marina Mitchell Friday afternoon at the future site of the facility.
Jerry Janzen said he’s happy to give back to Prince Albert. His parents grew up here and he was born and raised in the city.
“The hospice is an important thing in Prince Albert. It’s a need that hasn’t been met. I thought we could get on board and give something back to the community,” he said.
Janzen said that his mom passed away this spring. While she, thankfully, didn’t need hospice care, he said, not everyone is so lucky.
“We’re looking to increase the health care availability for people,” he said, encouraging others to contribute. “Jump on, you never know when a friend, family or coworker is going to need something like this.”
The campaign to raise the funds to build a freestanding hospice is out to raise $4 million.
The finished hospice will have a non-denominational chapel for contemplation, prayer, quiet gatherings and celebrations. The facility will have ten beds in a 10,000 square foot building.
The province has promised to provide up to $2 million per year in operating funds beginning in 2021.
