A multi-use outdoor sports court is in the works for Waskesiu this fall. The Waskesiu Foundation has partnered with the Waskesiu Recreation Association to raise $150,000 for the court.

The foundation says funds must be raised by September 15th so installation can be started by fall and completion of the project by spring 2020. The installation would be part of the lawn bowling green on the Recreation Association’s grounds.

Non-beach days can be restless at the lake, but with the help of donors, a multi-use sports court can be built to provide a space for people of all ages and fitness levels to play friendly games of basketball, volleyball, soccer, floor hockey, dodgeball, or shuffleboard, as well as more competitive ones. The court will be another step towards completion of Waskesiu’s “recreation puzzle”.

Raylene Kershaw, Administrator for the Waskesiu Foundation, says the sports court is a part of a larger campaign for complete renewal of the recreation property’s “landscaping, lawn bowling greens, and picnic facilities, as well as pathways”.

July of 2018 saw the opening of Little Al’s Mini golf, a project that was brought to life by donors who raised $466,416 last year. The mini golf course is designed to reflect natural, historic and cultural themes, plus iconic treasures in and around Waskesiu and Prince Albert National Park.

According to the Waskesiu Foundation, donations of any size would help them reach their goal of $150,000.

Kershaw says, “We’re really thankful for Parks Canada and their support of the project”.

Examples of what the proceeds would go towards:

  • $250 would purchase 50 square feet of game tile
  • $500 would paint lines for one sport
  • $1,000 would purchase 2 adjustable basketball hoop systems
  • $1,500 would purchase a multi-game two pole net system
  • $2,000 would hard surface 150 square feet
