An up-and-coming roots-country superstar who almost sold out the E.A. Rawlinson Centre last time he visited Prince Albert is returning to the city this spring.
On Friday the E.A. Rawlinson Centre announced that Corb Lund would come to town with his band as part of a North American tour coinciding with his latest Album, Agricultural Tragic, which releases on April 24.
The first single off of that new album, 90 Seconds of Your Time, was also released Friday.
“He’s so good,” said Cara Stelmaschuk, marketing and events coordinator at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre.
“He’s just different. He’s a singer-songwriter, appeals to folk music fans too, he’s just kind of cool. We’re all excited for Corb Lund to be here.”
Lund, who hails from Alberta, last performed in Prince Albert on March 15 of last year. That show was a solo gig. This event includes a full band and a meet-and-greet/VIP experience.
The last show went “great,” Stelmaschuk said.
“We almost completely sold it out. I think we had three individual seats left in the whole auditorium.”
The VIP experience, she said, includes exclusive merchandise, some of which is unique to the Prince Albert event. That includes autographed, handwritten song sheets, a photo op, autograph session and private acoustic solo performance of about two to three songs before the show.
“You get treated like a real VIP.”
A press release describes Lund as an award-winning roots country singer who “embraces his Western heritage through his music, touching on a range of cowboy themes past and present.” That includes tales of lawless frontier saloons to the sombre realities of running a modern family ranch.
“Hailing from the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Lund is about as authentic as they come,” the press release continued.
“He signs about the life that he knows and, as a result, his writing really resonates with rural audiences. Meanwhile, Lund’s traditional sound is music to classic country lovers’ ears, and has won over fans across the American West.”
Along with his band, The Hurtin’ Albertans, Lund will take his authentic sound and multiple award wins and nominations on the road this spring and summer. His tour includes four Saskatchewan stops — Prince Albert on May 11, Regina on May 14, Saskatoon on May 15 and Cadillac on May 16.
Tickets are available at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre box office. VIP packages will be the only tickets on sale for the first few days, with general admission going on sale later.
