Nomination Guide
We hope this guide will provide some assistance to you if you wish to nominate someone for Citizen of the Year. You may have some questions like: Who is eligible? How do I submit? What do I include? What is expected of a nominator?.
Who?
The Citizen of the Year is a person who volunteers their time, energy and effort to help make our community a better place. It is someone who undertook a special project during the year that is worthy of recognition, or it is the acknowledgement of long term service in one, or many areas. The key factor is volunteer service, time and energy freely given with no compensation received.
How?
The call for nominations is published in the Daily Herald. There will be a simple form indicating the basic information requested. The form serves a guideline for a written submission to be delivered to the Daily Herald. There is also an electronic submission option through the Daily Herald website. The online form has the provision to attach digital files of supporting documents.
What?
The greater the support you can demonstrate for the nomination, the better. Be clear in the reason the person is being nominated and provide as much background as possible. Gather letters of support from community members to bolster the nomination. Do not use form letters that have different names attached, but have supporters communicate personal and unique expressions of support focused on the area of nomination.
Nominator Expectations
As the nominator, you are the prime contact for any additional information that may be requested during the review process and your assistance will be required in arranging the announcement. The nominator also provides assistance to the organizers in securing tribute presenters for the award banquet and helping to personalize the event.
