For the second game in a row, the Prince Albert Northern Bears relied on hat trick heroics to get the victory.

Brooklyn Anderson’s natural hat trick over a short four-minute span was part of a four-goal second period outbust as the Bears downed the visiting Melville Prairie Fire 4-1 on Saturday. Tori MacDonald had three assists and captain Kate Ball had two assists for the Bears, who maintained their five-point lead on the Swift Current Wildcats for third place in the SFMAAAHL standings.

Prince Albert outshot Melville 9-5 in the first period at Kinsmen Arena, but it was the Prairie Fire who struck first. Reauna Blight scored just two-and-a-half minutes into the period, with assists to Kailey Ottenbreit and Jordyn Bear. However, after that it was all Prince Albert.

Jessie Herner tied things up seven minutes into the second period, with the lone assist to McKenzie Mayo. Anderson then broke the deadlock for good with her first of the night at 7:43. She then scored again at 5:45, and once more, this time on the power play, at 3:26.

Goaltenders Scout Anderson and Cheyenne Jamieson shut the door a scoreless third period, allowing the Bears to skate away with the win. Anderson made 16 saves for Prince Albert, while Jamieson stopped 31 shots for the Prairie Fire.

The Bears are back in action on Feb. 8 when they head south for a two-game weekend series with the Weyburn Gold Wings. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Prince Albert’s next home game is on Feb. 15 against second-place Regina. Puck drop is 7 p.m. at the Kinsmen Arena.
