The final road trip of the regular season was a successful one for the Prince Albert Northern Bears.
The Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League side extended their win streak to five games over the weekend as they cruised to 10-3 and 11-0 triumphs over the Weyburn Gold Wings on Friday and Saturday at Crescent Point Place.
Miranda Heidt led the way Saturday with two goals and four assists, while Jadyn Kushniruk and Jasper Desmarais both had four point outings.
Kate Ball scored twice in the win, with teammates McKenzie Mayo, Haley Kicia and Abby Soyko also finding the back of the net.
Scout Anderson stopped all 24 shots she faced for his first career Midget AAA shutout, while Daneka Dickson made 39 saves for the Gold Wings.
Friday’s contest was headlined by three-point performances from Heidt and Kailey Ledoux, while Tori MacDonald dished out three helpers.
Desmarais lit the lamp twice, with Kushniruk, Mayo, Kicia, Kate Ball, Lauren Willoughby and Jessie Herner also helping out on offence.
Mia Chretien, Payton Mabee and Mahteya Dumelie replied for the Gold Wings, who sit at the bottom of the league standings with an 1-24-1 record.
Lexi Beuker made 21 saves to earn the victory, while Amara Lewendon stopped 29 shots for the hosts.
With the wins in Weyburn, the Bears improved their record to 16-8-2 on the campaign and sit in third place in the standings.
They are three points back of the 16-6-3 Regina Rebels, who have a game in hand, and hold a three-point cushion over the 13-11-2 Swift Current Wildcats.
The Rebels will take on the Bears at the Kinsmen Arena Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., before concluding their regular season slate on Wednesday, Feb. 20 against the Notre Dame Hounds in Regina.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats will finish off their campaign at home on Saturday and Sunday against the Gold Wings.
This weekend’s games for the Bears will also mark the debut of their special Humboldt Broncos themed jerseys, which they will also wear for their first home game of the post-season.
The uniforms will then be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the SJHL’s Mental Assistance Fund.
