Four men and a woman have been charged with first-degree murder in Prince Albert’s fourth homicide of 2019.

On Friday afternoon at about 3 p.m., police and paramedics responded to a call at a downtown apartment building for a complaint of an assault in progress.

They found a 22-year-old man in critical condition at the scene. He was transported to the Victoria Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The victim was known to his attackers.

Four men, aged 31, 23, 23 and 21 and a 19-year-old woman have been charged with first-degree murder and are due for a first appearance in provincial court on Monday at 9:30 a.m.

While the incident took place at the same building as the homicide death of a two-year-old that is still under investigation, police say the incidents do not appear to be related.

An autopsy is expected to occur in the next week. The Prince Albert Police criminal investigations division and forensic identification section are working with the coroner’s office to investigate the incident fully.
