Armed robbery suspect arrested

Police have made an arrest in a Monday afternoon armed robbery.

At about 4 p.m., police received a call about an armed robbery that had just occurred in the 1000 Block of River Street West.

Police say once they arrived on scene they spoke with two female victims. The victims reportedly said an unknown man had asked them for a ride to an address in the city. While giving the man a ride, he produced a knife and demanded the females’ vehicle and wallets. The driver stopped the car and both women exited the car with their wallets and ran to a nearby residence to call police.

The suspect left in the stolen vehicle travelling eastbound. Neither victim was injured.

Later that evening, at about 6:20 p.m., patrol officers located the stolen vehicle in the 1400 Block of 12 Street West. Officers observed an unknown man in the driver’s seat, along with two female passengers, inside the stolen vehicle.

Police activated lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver ignored the police and sped away. Police did not pursue the car due to its high speed and their concern for public and officer safety.

At about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, patrol officers located the stolen vehicle again. This time, it was parked in an alley in the 900 Block of Central Avenue.

Police drove a patrol car in front of the stolen vehicle to prevent it “from going mobile, as the vehicle was running and headlights on with an unknown male in the driver seat,” they said in a media release.

Officers reportedly heard the stolen vehicle rev its engine before the vehicle rammed the front of the patrol car.

The suspect fled on foot and entered a nearby building through an open window.

Patrol officers, as well as the K9 unit with PSD Daxa searched the building, locating and arresting 24-year-old Lenny Daniels without further incident. No officers were injured.

Daniels, of Prince Albert, is facing several charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, armed robbery, operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner, evading police, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, break and enter and breach of court order.

He was due in court for a first appearance Tuesday.
