A group effort

Camaraderie binds P.A. Community Players together as they prepare for upcoming production

Morley Harrison says sometimes his actors are having so much fun during rehearsals that he has to bang on the front of the stage and say, “Enough fun, get back to work.”

Harrison is directing the Prince Albert Community Players’ upcoming production of Bull in a China Shop by American playwright C.B. Gilford. The play is about a group of six older women living in a boarding house who try to get the attention of a handsome homicide detective by staging a murder.

Harrison’s wife Fay, who describes her involvement in the play as “running around and doing a few things” and “moral support” but also has directorial input, describes the play as “perfectly silly.”

“Morley and I saw this particular play in Victoria about a year ago and we thought. ‘We’ve got people in our drama group that would fit those roles perfectly,’” she said.

“It just seemed a play that was suitable for our cast that we’ve been able to gather and also a play that would appeal to the audiences that like to come to Community Players,” Harrison added.

The play will be performed at the Wesley United Church Hall from Friday, April 21 to Sunday, April 23. The Saturday performance includes supper and the Sunday matinee includes dessert.

“One thing we’ve been really pleased with is the whole cast because they’re very experienced actors for the most part,” Harrison said.

“We have a couple of new people come to our troupe but the rest of them have done several plays and actually we have co-directed (the play) with all of them.”
