Local rock group returns to Telemiracle to perform extended overnight set

Prince Albert-based rock group Einsteins of 9 have been invited back to perform at the Kinsmen Foundation Telemiracle telethon in Regina next month.

“Just based on last year’s audition and last year’s performance they asked us, we applied again and they accepted our application. So we didn’t have to audition a second time,” singer and guitarist Shaun Hunko said.

Last year the group — Hunko, bassist Murray Middlebrook, lead guitarist Robin Wilkinson and drummer Matt Sawatzky —performed a single song during the primetime broadcast. This time they are being given a 30-minute set at 3:30 a.m. as part of the Saskatchewan Overnight showcase.

“It is in the wee hours of the morning, but it’s great to be a part of,” Hunko said.

“(We’re) just honoured, excited. Any time you get a chance to play on national television that’s definitely a plus and we’re really looking forward to it.”
