Police have made an arrest in the investigation into the death of a 28-year-old woman on Mistawasis First Nation.

At 4:40 a.m. on March 3, Shellbrook RCMP responded to a complaint of an unresponsive female at a Mistawasis residence. She was transported to hospital in Shellbrook where she was pronounced dead. The woman was later identified as Cindy Joseph of Ahtahkakoop First Nation.

The RCMP Major Crime Unit North investigated the death, along with the Shellbrook RCMP, the Prince Albert Forensic Identification Section and the Office of the Chief Coroner.

On March 8, the RCMP announced they had charged 30-year-old Danny Ledoux of Mistawasis with one count of second-degree murder.

In a press release, the RCMP said Joseph and Ledoux were known to each other.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Joseph and Ledoux were living together in a common law partnership.

According to the same source, Joseph had serious injuries to her face.

Ledoux made his first appearance in provincial court Thursday. He was remanded into custody.

His next appearance is scheduled for March 23 at 10 a.m.
