Zoe, age 7, leukemia

Zoe is a fun-loving, creative seven-year-old who loves interesting characters and adventures. She enjoys swimming, dancing and rock climbing, and loves to create art. She is drawn to strong characters, including princesses, monsters, transforming machines, heroes, villains, light and dark. She’s adventurous and up for thrills, even the scary ones.

Zoe was diagnosed with leukemia when she was two years old. The illness was caught early but the treatment was difficult and complicated by an infection that caused damage to her heart, requiring her to be followed closely by a cardiology team. Zoe spent a lot of time in the hospital throughout her four years of treatment and much time away from her three brothers, Fenix, Bodhi, and Oliver. She wished for fun, adventure, and being with her siblings and parents, Maici and Jason, at her favourite Florida theme park.

The family stayed at Give Kids The World Village, a non-profit, 36-hectare whimsical resort in Kissimmee, Florida that caters to wish kids and offers all-day ice-cream, several swimming pools, mini golf and horse and pony rides. Zoe called the village their “vacation home” and says it was “just the most perfect experience”.

“This wish gave us the opportunity to bond as a family after an extremely dark period,” said Maici. “It let us heal those bonds and create new memories that wouldn’t have been possible for us to make on our own.”

The anticipation of the wish trip also helped the family get through Zoe’s treatment and the delays of the pandemic.

Hope is essential for children with critical illnesses, and its life-changing power is unlocked when wishes like Zoe’s are granted. Together we can continue to transform lives, one wish at a time.
