Norma Young chosen as winner of draw at Save On Foods

Norma Young went in to Save On Foods to treat her granddaughter.

Now, she’s driving away with a brand new truck.

The Prince Albert Resident was the winner of the truck giveaway put on by Save On Foods over the past two months. Saturday, the prize finalists gathered at the store for an elimination draw. As names were pulled out, disappointed finalists walked away with consolation prizes in the form of gift cards, but without the keys to the quad-cab Dodge Ram on display at the front of the store.

“Every time I drove by, I’d say ‘that’s my truck’,” Young said.

As the number of finalists dwindled, Young grew nervous. When her name was called, she thrust her arms in the air, ecstatic that she had won the truck.

“I’m speechless at the moment. It’s wonderful,” she said.

Young had entered the draw one day when she was taking her granddaughter to the store to treat her to the build-your-own frozen yogurt at the store’s frozen yogurt bar.

“I came down here and thought I might as well get my groceries while I’m here,” she said.

‘When they handed me the slip to enter, (my granddaughter) said ‘Can I do it, Grandma? Can I do it?’

“I said sure, go ahead.”

Young and her granddaughter entered the draw. They only put their names in once, yet were picked out of the hundreds who had entered to win the prize.

Young had her granddaughters with her and embraced them in a group hug when she was named the contest winner.

“It’s super exciting,” said store manager Warren McGlone.

“It wasn’t hard to get out of bed to come in and give away that truck. We’ve been looking forward to it for over two months. Today was finally the day. It was nice, right before Christmas, to give somebody a new truck.”

When the store decided to give something away, they wanted to go big.

“We thought about a bunch of different things, and said, no, let’s go all out, let’s give away a truck,” he said.

“It’s cool to be a part of.”

As for Young, she’s hopeful she’ll be able to get some good use out of her new ride.

“I don’t know what to say,” she said.

“I’m speechless.”
