Aurora art show and sale moves from P.A. Arts Centre to Rock Trout Café
Prince Albert’s Aurora Art Group is undergoing a change of scenery for their annual art show and sale.
The exhibition has typically been held at the P.A. Arts Centre, but this year the group felt that a change in atmosphere and venue was in order. The 2017 edition of the show is being held this Sunday at the Rock Trout Café.
“We loved doing it at the Arts Centre because of what the Arts Centre is, the history and the connection to it, because a lot of us had instruction there or gave instruction or give instruction,” said Aurora member Birgit Raduenz, adding that when it came to the move, “Space and trying to give it a bit of an atmosphere was part of the thinking.”
This year’s show will include three guest artists from around the P.A. area: potter Bonnie Bailey, painter Jenny Heslop and fibre artist Rachel Mardell. Raduenz said the group chooses guests they appreciate as people and as artists. She said there’s usually a personal connection.
Some Aurora members, like Raduenz, first showed with the group as a guest artist. Leah Joelson was a guests last year and now she’s participating as a proper member for the first time.
“We all really like each other and there’s good camaraderie and appreciation for each other and supportiveness towards each other, so I think that all comes in choosing the guest artists,” Raduenz said.
