Trojans top Mintos

Lucas Punkari/Daily Herald Prince Albert Mintos blueliner Marek Schneider controls the puck as Connor Giebel of the Moose Jaw Generals chases after him during a game earlier this season.

For the first time this season, the Prince Albert Mintos have dropped consecutive games.

After a 5-3 loss to the Saskatoon Blazers on home ice Wednesday, the Mintos fell to 3-3 in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League play Friday with a 6-2 road defeat against the Tisdale Trojans.

Ethan Ironside and Andrew Schaab both scored for the Mintos, who received a 34-save performance from Carter Woodside.

Woodside would then go on to make his Western Hockey League debut a night later for the Regina Pats, as he made eight saves during the third period of a 7-3 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings at the Brandt Centre.

Kalen Ukrainetz had three assists for the Trojans, while Moose Jaw Warriors prospect Cade Hayes scored twice.

Trenton Curtis, Connor Long, David Wiens and Davis Chorney also found the back of the net for this year’s Telus Cup West Regional hosts.

Tanner Martin turned aside 24 shots for the Trojans, who now have a 4-1 record.

The Mintos are now off until Tuesday, Oct. 16, as they’ll pay a visit to the Battlefords Stars.

They will return to the Art Hauser Centre on Thursday, Oct. 18, as they’ll face the Saskatoon Contacts to begin a three game home stand.
