Saskatchewan reaches semifinal round at Women’s Under-18 Nationals

Thanks to a 2-1 record in round-robin play, Saskatchewan has qualified for the final four at the 2019 National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

The squad, which features Prince Albert Northern Bears forwards Brooklyn Anderson, Jasper Desmarais and Paris Oleksyn, will take the to ice at 1 p.m. Friday in Morden, Man. to face Ontario Blue in the semifinal round.

Saskatchewan, who have never reached the podium at the event, started off the tournament with a 3-2 win over Alberta on Tuesday and followed that up Wednesday with a 3-2 shootout triumph over Team Atlantic.

They ended up in second place in Group A after a 4-2 loss to Ontario Red Thursday.

Anderson had a goal in three round-robin contests and also scored the shootout winner against Team Atlantic.

Desmarais and Oleksyn are still searching for their first points of the week.

The winner of Friday’s semifinal will face either Quebec or Ontario Blue in the gold medal game Saturday in Winkler, Man.

That contest will also air nationally on TSN.
