Police made two arrests for drunk driving in recent days, in what a spokesperson said was an atypical spike in impaired cases.
Officers also responded to a third call of erratic driving, police media liaison Alanna Adamko said, but they could not locate the vehicle.
“It’s more impaireds than I’ve seen for a while,” she said. “I wonder if it’s the warmer weather bringing more people out.”
The first complaint came in Friday evening, at about 8:13 p.m. Officers responded and found a vehicle travelling northbound on Second Avenue West matching the description. They pulled over the 41-year-old driver on 13 Street West, and saw that he was “visibly intoxicated.”
They arrested the man and took him to cells, where he failed a breathalyser test. He was charged with exceeding .08 while operating a motor vehicle and is set to appear in court on May 3.
Police dealt with a similar case in the early morning hours Monday, at around 2 a.m. An officer noticed that a vehicle was “behaving erratically” and pulled it over at a parking lot on Marquis Drive. The officer approached the vehicle and smelled a “strong odour of alcohol coming from the driver’s side.”
The 36-year-old driver was arrested and given a breathalyzer, which he failed. He was arrested and will also face driving over 0.8 charges. The Prince Albert man was due to appear in court Monday.
