The winner of the 2019 Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce Legacy award is using the opportunity to thank everyone who helped her reach this point.
Roses Stewart was named the latest recipient earlier this week. The owner of Victoria Square Compounding pharmacy, Stewart has been a member of the community since 1975, raising her three children in Prince Albert.
She purchased a small dispensary at Victoria Square in 1994. The current building was finished in 22011, adding medical specialists and a coffee shop to the complex.
“When I look at the names that are on the Legacy Award over the years, they are the people who built this community,” Stewart said.
“For my name to be put on this list is overwhelming.”
The Legacy Award is presented by the chamber to recognize members of the business community who have had a positive impact on the region. Wayne Hansen won last year, with Ron and Shelley Horn earning the honour the year prior.
“It is always a privilege to award business leaders for their commitment to the community,” said Elise Hildebrandt, chamber CEO, in a press release. “Without their commitment, Prince Albert would not be what it is today.”
“I am honoured and thrilled at this opportunity to be able to thank publicly the people that have supported me over the years,” Stewart said.
“I want to thank the people of P.A. who have made my life possible here.”
Stewart described Prince Albert as everything.
“It’s been my life, the life of my children,” she said.
‘it’s given me the opportunity to bring up my children as a single mom. People drove my kids and educated my kids. Coaches of volleyball, softball, basketball — all the care and love that was extended to myself and my family over the years have been overwhelming.
Stewart said that support is why she’s always conscious of the need to give back.
“Throughout the years that I’ve had my pharmacy and have been able to, I’ve been very conscious of giving back to this community,” she said.
“This building, I think, culminates everything that I’ve done for the community, in that it provides a beautiful medical facility where health care can be provided in a world-class building.
“It’s built by the people of Prince Albert by supporting me. The company that designed it, AODBT, is a local company, and the building is a beautiful place for people to come and become healthy.”
Stewart will be honoured as the 29th recipient of the Legacy Award at the Legacy Brunch on March 21 at the Coronet Hotel. The finalists for the annual Samuel McLeod Business Awards will also be announced during that event. Registration
Tickets are $30 and available on the chamber website. Registration starts at 11 a.m. and brunch at 11:15.
The business awards are set for April 18 and will honour business leaders in ten categories. Stewart will also be recognized that event.
