Local artists present scenes from nature in watercolours and oils
Bonnie Denny and June Ricklefs have set out to capture on canvas the beauty of Northern Saskatchewan, from the lakes below to the skies above.
Denny and Ricklefs, two members of the local Studio 1010 art group, have turned their experiences exploring and living in Saskatchewan’s north into a new exhibition of watercolour and oil landscape paintings called Northern Skies and Reflections.
The exhibit opens at the John V. Hicks Gallery on Feb. 1 and runs until Feb. 23. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, Feb 4.
The majority of the more than 30 pieces are new and were created specifically for the exhibit. Ricklefs said she started her “skyscapes” in the fall.
“I live out at Christopher Lake and from my deck I can see a lot of skies, really beautiful skies, and so I’ve been doing quite a bit of paintings of those,” Ricklefs said.
Ricklefs said she asked Denny, who has a cottage in La Ronge and used to travel to places like Reindeer Lake and Lake Athabasca, to collaborate with her on the project.
