Scouts touting Ian Scott as a top goalie choice in upcoming NHL entry draft
As the 2017 WHL season wears on and the NHL entry draft creeps ever closer, scouts are keeping a close eye on at least one member of the Prince Albert Raiders.
Goalie Ian Scott has been turning heads in the scouting community this season, featuring prominently on a number of ranked lists designed to anticipate where players may be picked in the NHL entry draft.
In the latest such list, released by TSN’s Bob McKenzie, Scott is listed 40th overall, the third-highest ranking among the 10 goalies listed on the top-80 list.
McKenzie put the list together by talking to several pro scouts. While none picked Scott as their first choice, he did “receive widespread support as amongst the upper echelon stoppers in the draft,” the article says.
Monday evening in Quebec City, Scott got a chance to show the scouts his stuff during the annual CHL prospects game.
Starting in goal for Team Cherry, Scott played just over 21 minutes, allowing four goals on 17 shots before relinquishing net minding duties to Stuart Skinner of the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the second half of the matchup.
“It was fun to go up against the top talent in the country,” he said at practice Wednesday.
