Police investigate possible homicide in Pelican Narrows

The RCMP has launched a homicide investigation after a suspicious death in Pelican Narrows.

At 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, Pelican Narrows RCMP received a report of a “sudden death.” A man was transported to a local health centre, where he was pronounced dead, police reported.

They have not yet been able to determine the identity of the man, but say they are treating his death as “suspicious in nature.” An autopsy is slated for later this week.

RCMP Major Crime Unit – South is conducting the homicide investigation. Police are warning residents in Pelican Narrows, a remote northern community of only 790 people, that they will see an increased police presence. They ask residents to respect police barricades and follow police directions.

Pelican Narrows is located about 370 km northeast of Prince Albert. It is part of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation.
