Local photographer returns to P.A. with two photo exhibitions
Ken Tickner may not live in Prince Albert anymore, but his art continues to bring him back to him home town.
The Saskatoon-based photographer’s latest exhibition, entitled When do Dreams Become Reality, is on display at Amy’s on Second until Sept. 17. The show will overlap with another local exhibition of his work at the John M. Cuelenaere Public Library’s Grace Campbell Gallery starting at the beginning of September.
He said a lot of the pictures in When do Dreams Become Reality are from P.A. and he regularly submits work to the Winter Festival Art Show and Sale. In 2015, he won the Winter Festival photography award for a piece called The Towers of Mars and the Mann Art Gallery has purchased his work for its permanent collection.
The pictures in the exhibition have a “metallic” finish and are framed without glass, meaning the images benefit from being illuminated. Tickner said by lighting up his work one gets “100 per cent of the look (and) the feel of the photograph.”
“They’re nice and light and there’s no reflection in them as there would be in glass,” he said.
