Saskatchewan came together to raise over $5.6 million for the Kinsmen Foundation over the weekend at Telemiracle 43, and some local groups played their part in reaching that mark.
The Prince Albert Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs both got involved in raising funds and in helping out at the event. The Kinsmen presented $12,500 in donations, while the Kinettes topped that amount and were able to donate $15,725.
Performing Arts Warehouse also did their part, presenting ‘Imagine,’ a modern dance choreographed by local dance teacher Barb Jones.
According to a media release, her father was a Saskatoon Kinsmen member who was there supporting and helping the very first Telemiracle, making the event extra meaningful for her.
Six dancers performed this year, and for each of them, it was the first time. The group raised $5,276.40 through scrunchie, cupcake and popcorn sales; a day of Dance, a raffle, a silent auction and a dad’s dance.
“It was an incredible experience to perform at Telemiracle and raise money for such an important cause,” said Jillian Klassen, who presented the cheque onstage.
“Telemiracle helps improve the lives of so many people in our own city and across the province” added dancer Sheridan McDonald.
“It was an honour to be a part of it.”
All funds raised at Telemiracle 43 will go towards supporting initiatives of the Kinsmen Foundation, which provides special needs equipment and access to medical assistance to Saskatchewan residents to improve quality of life and independence. Assistance is provided to individuals, group homes and institutions.
