Tanisha Merasty hadn’t ever been in a pageant before Saturday’s Miss Saskatchewan World 2017 in Saskatoon.

But that didn’t stop her.

“That was my first time,” the Prince Albert teen said. “It was amazing.”

Despite her lack of pageant experience, she won. Now, she’ll get to go to Toronto on July to compete as Saskatchewan’s entry into Miss Canada World. If she wins that, she’ll go on to the international competition.

“The hardest part was the interview,” she said. “I had probably done only about three interviews in my life. I signed up a day before the pageant, so I really didn’t have much time to prepare.”

Merasty decided to sign up for the experience. She was previously selected to go to the Canadian Model Talent Convention. That event will also be held in Toronto, three weeks from now.

“I thought I’d get as much experience as I can,” the 19-year-old said.

In the short two days of the Saskatchewan pageant, Merasty learned a ton.
