There was a death related to COVID-19 reported in the North Central zone, which includes Prince Albert, on Thursday
The death was in the 40 to 49 age group and was one of two deaths reported. The other was in the Central East and in the 70 to 79 age group.
The number of deaths related to COVID-19 in the province is currently 422.
Also on Thursday there were 168 additional cases reported in the province. There were two additional cases added to the entire North Central zone.
Two cases with pending residence have been assigned to the North Central zone.
North Central 2, which is Prince Albert, has 34 active cases.
North Central 1, which includes communities such as Christopher Lake, Candle Lake and Meath Park, has 38 active cases and North Central 3 has seven active cases.
Regina reported the high in the province with 102 new cases..
There are currently 154 people in hospital overall in the province. Of the 132 reported as receiving in patient care there are five in North Central. Of the 22 people reported as being in intensive care there are none in North Central.
The current seven-day average 181, or 14.7 cases per 100,000 population.
Of the 32,346 reported COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan, 1,623 are considered active.
The recovered number now sits at 30,301 after 105 more recoveries were reported.
The total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic is 32,346 of those 7,957 cases are from the North area (3,230 North West, 3,457 North Central and 1,270 North East).
There were 3,370 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on March 24.
As of today there have been 643,629 COVID-19 tests performed in Saskatchewan.
There were 4,247 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered yesterday in Saskatchewan bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 155,754.
There were 18 doses administered in the North Central reported. Doses were also administered in the adjacent North East, Far North West, Central West, Central East, South Central, Central East, Regina and Saskatoon.
The appointment booking system has now expanded to include residents 62 years and older
More than two-thirds of Saskatchewan residents age 80 and over and 30 per cent of Saskatchewan residents in their 70s have now received their first dose.
Regina outpaced the province with 1,418 vaccines delivered.
Variant of concern case confirmed in North Central
There were 1,064 confirmed variants of concern (VOC) cases identified by the province on March 24. This included one identified in North Central.
Regina led the province with 895 identified, other regions included Saskatoon, the Far North East, Central East, South Central and South East.
These have previously been reported as “presumptive positives” but all screening tests will be considered confirmed VOCs for the purposes of public reporting and contact investigations.
There are 118 new lineage results reported today. Of the 478 VOCs with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing in Saskatchewan, 470 are B1.1.1.7 (UK) and eight are B1.351 (SA).
The Regina zone accounts for 400 (or 84 per cent) of the VOC cases with confirmed lineage reported in Saskatchewan.
Please note that these VOC may have been initially identified via means other than screening (i.e. selection for whole genome sequencing without screening) and that whole genome sequencing results to identify lineage are included in the screening results.”
27 active cases of COVID-19 in youth in North Central
On Thursday the province released the updated numbers on COVID-19 cases in youth. The total active cases in youth provincially in all locations are 413. Two have no known location and 411 have a location reported.
The province releases the update on the numbers each Thursday.
Currently in the North Central zone, which includes Prince Albert, there are 27 active cases in youth. Last week there were 128 tests performed across the North Central zone.
North Central 2, which is Prince Albert, has 10 active cases in youth.
North Central 1, which includes communities such as Christopher Lake, Candle Lake and Meath Park, has 16 active cases and North Central 3 has one active case.
Cumulative tests performed since Sept. 7, 2020 in the North Central zone is 6,262
Provincially there is a 8,1 per cent test positivity rate in youth.
There were 3,545 tests performed in total in the province in the last week.
The cumulative number of tests performed since Sept. 7, 2020 is 87,204.
