Officer allegedly assaulted during sex assault investigation

Police say a man assaulted an officer, apparently by choking, as they responded to a report of an attempted sexual assault.

Trevor Broussie appeared in Prince Albert’s provincial courthouse Monday morning to face charges of assaulting an officer and overcoming resistance by choking. He was remanded to custody for a bail hearing on Tuesday.

The Prince Albert Police Service reported that officers were dispatched to a call regarding an attempted sexual assault and disturbance at a hotel on the 3600 block of 2 Ave. West.

When they arrived, early Saturday morning, the officers attempted to arrest a suspect outside the hotel. But the man physically assaulted an officer, according to police. They were eventually able to bring him under control, however, and placed him under arrest.

Court records identify the man as Trevor Broussie, 34 years old and from Black Lake.
The sexual assault investigation is still underway, police reported.
