An entire season of hard work came together for the Prince Albert Pikes novice swim team over the weekend in Regina.
In their final competitive meet of the season, Harley Taylor, Olivia Schlamp, Shelby Roeddecke, Aberdeen Roos, Ana Rodea, Anna Liedtke and Reyenna Horner finished on top of the podium in the novice team finals division at the 2019 Canadian Prairie Championship.
“It was the final kick at the can for our team and it was the best swim that the girls have had all year,” Pikes head coach Katherine Johnson said.
“Everything came together for our girls. After we took part at the provincials in Regina last month, we spent a lot of time working on fine-tuning and working on the presentation aspects of our routine, which all paid off in Regina.”
Over 250 swimmers represented five provinces at the meet, with Pikes being one of 22 medalists that came from Saskatchewan.
“It was a fun meet to be a part of but it’s a meet where you just go straight to the final for your swim,” Johnson said. “You just have that one kick at the can.
“The judges are looking at how well you execute your routine, the artistic impression that each performer makes and the difficulty of the routine. There’s quite a lot that goes into it.”
Now that the competitive season is over, the Pikes are starting to make their plans for the 2019-20 season, with their registration night planned for Friday, June 21.
