Royals top Tisdale 14-12, extend win streak to three

The Prince Albert Royals survived a seventh-inning scare in Tisdale on Monday but came away with a 14-12 Victoria Day victory.

“The kids hit well,” Royals head coach Lance Alexander said.

“They have way better patience at the plate. They waited for their pitch to hit instead of just firing away at whatever comes on the first pitch. And their base running was way better. Fielding still needs a little bit of work, but I’m sure it’ll come.”

Alexander said his team had a strong offensive effort on Monday, gradually building up a 14-4 lead after six innings. At that point he said the other team offered to forfeit the match, but he insisted they play on. One inning later Tisdale scored eight runs to turn the match from a blowout to a nail-biter.

“(We had) a couple errors, they had some good hits, a couple bobbled balls and then a couple past balls. (Our) pitcher’s curveball was working very well and he hit the plate, went over the catcher and let two runs score,” Alexander said.

“We called a timeout, got our bearings and got an out and stuck a guy out and then we got another out and we were out of the inning. So (we) just kind of had to calm down a little bit.”
