RCMP say a 69-year-old man was declared deceased at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision near Wakaw on Tuesday.
Police responded to the call at about 1 p.m.
A semi-truck collided with four other vehicles at a construction site on Highway 41, about eight kilometres east from the village. Wakaw EMS, a Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist, Wakaw Fire Department, Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, Department of Highways and Prince Albert Victim Services all attended the scene.
According to a Wednesday news release, the semi entered the construction site and rear-ended the other vehicles.
The man who died was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle right in front of the semi.
Others involved sustained non-life threatening injuries. They were either treated on scene or transported to hospital.
Gurmeet Singh Cheema, 38, was arrested on scene for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. He was scheduled to make his first appearance in Melfort Provincial Court on Wednesday.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
The collision blocked Highway 41 on Tuesday, but it’s since been reopened.
