Carlton Sr. girls basketball team wins another tournament; sets eyes on provincials

The Carlton Comprehensive High School senior girls basketball team won its fourth tournament over the weekend and now have one competition to go before playoffs.

“We know that we’re capable of playing really good basketball and we’ve definitely had moments of greatness throughout the season but we also have lots of things that we can continue to work on and grow and prepare for playoffs,” Carlton Crusaders coach Jennifer Ferguson said.

“So we’re very happy with what we’ve done so far but we know that doesn’t really mean anything in March and we have to be ready to continue to improve because other teams will be doing that and we need to be ready to compete at an even higher level in March when we get to the playoffs.”

On Feb. 11 the Crusaders won gold at the North Battleford Comprehensive High School basketball tournament. Carlton beat Weyburn and Moose Jaw Central in the round robin stage to finish first in their pool before knocking out Melfort in the semifinals. The Crusaders then defeated Estevan’s 5A girls team in the gold-medal match to claim the title.
